As a partner with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Council Gardens receives operating subsidies that allow quality housing at an affordable cost. Rentals are available for low and moderate income households in which at least one member is 62 years old, or for mobility impaired adults over 18.
The 2022 income limits are: for a one-person household $47,850 and for a two-person household $54,650.
Rent includes all utilities, except phone. The tenant’s portion of the rent is determined by his or her income and out of pocket medical expenses. Generally, the rent is approximately 30 percent of the household income. HUD pays the difference between the market rent and the tenant’s payment. Owning property or having a savings account does not necessarily disqualify an applicant from renting a unit with subsidy.
